THIS OOPS! COULD SAVE YOU A LOT OF MONEY. To start with a disclaimer, I love Glade Plug-ins and have used them for years throughout my home. They instantly make my bedrooms smell wonderfully fresh and my kitchen smell yummy. I still use them and will continue to do so but have learned an expensive lesson I want to share with you. As for related products of other companies I have no experience.
My handyman, who is very diligent and has worked for me for several years, was doing some work on my house and unplugged one of the Glade Plug-Ins in the area where he was working. He laid it on top of a beautiful expensive sideboard nearby. When he went to put things back a couple of days later, it had leaked out onto the wood and eaten a large hole through the finish and well into the wood.
I was out of town, so he emailed me a picture and apologized profusely. Of course, he didn’t know that
1) It would leak.
2) It would damage the furniture.
The estimate the wood-refinishing company give me was $800.00 for the repair. They would have to move it to their shop and refinish the entire top. As of now, I keep an antique display mirror on top of it.
The warning label on the package addresses the risk of getting the solution into your eyes with instructions on what to do in the event of that happening. It says nothing about possible damage to furniture it may come in contact with. This is something that should be included on the warning label and am sending this suggestion to them.
I’m not sharing this to discourage the use of this product, only to alert you that is can be caustic if it comes in contact with furniture or wood of any kind. Do not lay it on its side if it’s been opened. The label does warn about getting it in your eyes and gives instructions on what to do if that should happen.
It’s an excellent product if used properly. As they say, Don’t Throw the Baby Out With the Bathwater! Please share any experience you have had with Glade Plug-Ins in the comments below.
